"We" by Vladimir Zamyatin, Chs. 1-17
This is a pretty boring book so far, but I've wanted to read it after hearing references to it on BBC radio. It's a world where people really are numbers, and referred to as such. There was a 200-year war of the group against the individual, which the group won. People are now actually sacrificed to the group. Everyone lives under a giant green dome, like in the Simpsons movie. One number, the protagonist, gets involved with a (comparatively) wild woman who takes him to the ancient places that existed before the war and has sex with him without official sanction. (The sex arrangements in this book are comparable to those in Brave New World, in which anyone can "sign up for" anyone else).
